Born in Tokyo in 1940, Takeo Hayano is a graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Tokyo University of the Arts (majored in art history). After working at Toppan Printing, Ltd., and Toppan Printing Co. (America), Inc., he served as a managing director at Denshi Media Service, Toppan’s joint venture with Philips (Netherlands) and later at Image Mall Japan.
He has wide experience with a great variety of different kinds of work, chief among them research of collections at museums in Europe and North America, negotiations for the rights to reproduce work for commercial printing both in Japan and abroad, the editing and design of books and promotional materials, the organization and promotion of exhibitions featuring art and design, and the art direction for corporate calendars, introductory brochures and book publishing.
Since the founding of e-Art Co. Ltd., in 2000, he has been involved in: 1) graphic design for favored customers; 2) consulting in the general production of complete facsimile editions of famous Japanese handscrolls (Designated National Treasure class) and the sale of the facsimile handscrolls; 3) the design of posters and brochures for exhibitions of paintings and photographs; 4) the handling of negotiations for the copyrights necessary to reproduce paintings, photographs and illustrations for publishing purposes, together with negotiations with the art collectors for the rights to use them; 5) and the translation from Japanese into English of manuscripts related to fine arts.
Since 2000, he has organized various musical projects, including the sponsorship and support of both vocal and instrumental concerts by up-and-coming musicians. He founded the Mario Lanza Society of Japan in April 2005, with the full support of the American group The Lanza Legend. He became its first President. In 2020, he supported the Shinka Noh performance “Sumida-gawa River” at the Hosho Noh Theater, to be followed by four other Noh plays at different Noh theaters by 2023.

He was also a board member of JACCC (Japanese American Cultural and Community Center, located in Los Angeles). Japanese Representative (2008-2009) for the French Association of Tracing Basho’s “Oku no Hosomichi,” the event of art installation by Kaïdin to commemorate the 150th anniversary of cultural exchanges between France and Japan.
Associate member of the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Japan since 1966.
